Sam is also the father of Ethan Winthrop, whose mother is Ivy Winthrop Crane. Sam and Ivy were childhood sweethearts. However, it wasn't until Ethan was an adult that Sam learned that Ethan was his son. Sam grew up in Harmony and is now the town's respected Chief of Police. He is a pillar of strength in the close-knit community. He discovered that grace is still married to her first husband David. And that she and David have a son, John. He just moved out of the Bennett house.
